SAINT ETIENNE LA GENESTE

Surface: 1240 acres
Population: 61 inhabitants
Etymology: « la Geneste » would mean «land of brooms »
Distance from Neuvic: 8 miles

The enclosure of the parish
The XII° century church is situated near a magnificent lime tree (a Sully), close to the presbytery and the war memorial. With its Romanesque architecture, it looks like the church of Sainte-Marie-Lapanouze. Inside, you will find a XII° century stoup and two statues, one of St Jacques and the other one of St Etienne. The cemetary is near the church. At the entrance of the enclosure, there is a beutiful granite cross.

The castle of Laveix
It was built in 1615 in the middle of the fields. It had many different landlords. That is probably the reason why it has been neglected.
