The first maquis was situated in the Dordogne gorges. A camp was put in Neuvic and a school for the maquis was created in Lamazière-Basse. Parachuting and sabotages were taking place. Some members of the Resistance living in Neuvic were killed during the battle, shot or deported. The Haute-Corrèze was freed in August 1944, thanks to the Resistance.
Born in Neuvic, he was mayor of the city and doctor during the First World War. Several times minister, he joined the Resistance in London and the french "Comité de Libération Nationale". Elected president, he created the "Crédit Agricole" and modernized Neuvic by developing the tourism. He will remain a prominent well-known political figures for our city.
