It is situated in the former house of the President Henri Queuille, gave by his children to the department in 1976. It was inaugurated by François Mitterand em 1982, in the presence of many personalities like Jacques Chirac, Pierre Bérégovoy, Jacques Delors… The museum has a rich collection, frequently consulted by historians and researchers.

The museum has four rooms and an audiovisual map. It offers guided and educational tours on request.
